Final Music Video

Above is our final Music Video called 'Like Me' by our artist Ivory. We are really proud of what we have achieved in the time that we have had. Throughout the time we have got lots of feedback and then amended our video to the feedback we have received.

Our music video was filmed in multiple locations and contained a variety of shots and angles, this helped our music video to stay interesting all the way through.

Final Website

So here is our final website that we have created for our artist Ivory, it features a cover page with a moving background and has many improvements that have made it of higher quality:

Above is a screenshot of the cover page to our website that features a moving background of our artist Ivory. This helps the viewer feel more what Ivory is like as a person.

Above is a screenshot of the home page of our website, this is the first page you will see when opening the website, it is very simple and crisp.

Above is a screenshot of the official merchandise website which you can find the link to on Ivory's website, here we offer various Ivory merchandise (e.g. T-shirts, hoodies and posters).

Lastly, above is a screenshot of one of our many pages you can visit on the website, it is a news page that will keep you up to date with all things Ivory.

Final Digipak

After months of producing our digipak and modifying it from feedback and reflection, we have finally finished a digipak we are all happy with. All the photos match well and the grey color tone helps the theme run well throughout.

Here is our final digipak for Ivory's album 'Elements':

We believe that creating multiple drafts of our digipak was very effective and ensured that it was to as high quality as possible. We also changed the writing many times, including the font so it matched Ivory's logo. This helped bring the entire digipak together and this was the moment we realized this was our final digipak.

Evaluation Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop, challenge conventions of real media products?

These are 9 different gifs showing the best moments of our music video, these were chosen by the editing involved and how effective it is and how much impact it has on the video:

This was one of our best clips due to the way in which the continuity editing makes changing location and scene very effective. This is done by having the artist cover the camera with her hand and then uncover it in a different location, we used this as it is also a lot better than a simple jump cut which is often used through out the music video.

This medium shot is used during the chorus, editing is used to make the shot look very distilled to symbolises that the artist is going "insane", this is also backed up by the costume and make up which contrasts with what she looks like at the start of the music video.

A reverse shot is used at the start of the clip, this suggests she is reverting back to her "normal" personality as the next scene is a medium shot of her looking "normal". Also in the shot the editing which causes the clip to cut to black and back very quickly could signify that even though she looks "normal", she could still ahem a dark side.

During this clip it shows the contrast between the two personality's conveyed throughout the, music video. This divide between the two is made more effective as it fades from one personality, where she is "normal", to the chorus where she acts and looks "insane".

This clip portrays a more mysterious side which backs up the change in personality through out the video. This is due to editing as it appears as the artists is in two at once, it is actually done by cutting the clip after bring the camera up and just putting a clip of the artist standing there to create the allusion that she is in two places.

This is an array of shorts scenes in this one, this shows all the different kinds of costumes she wears during the music video. This also suggests the colour scheme as well, as even though she wears a variety of clothes they all and either fully black or mostly which shows her edgy side through out.

These are clips from our music video where we took influence for parts of real media products:

We were influenced by the this shot in the music video "faded" as it was a good way to change and show different locations in short time frame through the use of jump shots. However we developed this and used to also show a change in our artists as is shows the two personalities which are portrayed in our music video.

We wanted our video to have a third world location as we thought it would contrast with our artist to create a more effective music video. One of the music videos we watched which had this kind of location and effect was "no money" which had the main singer walking through a very run down and over grown location.

We found inspiration in this video as it shows the artist very close up, we developed this by making this close up show the emotion of our artist more.

This is prezi which coveys how our music video either agrees or disagrees with the 6 theories of Goodwin and the 4 key concepts of Vernallis'. This also shows weather or not actual media products compare to Goodwin's and Vernallis' theories:

Feedback from director Jake Wynne

Below is all of the feedback that we as a class received from major director Jake Wynne, he looked at all of our music videos and gave constructive feedback about we he thought of each one. This was a huge help to us because it allowed us to see what external viewers thought about our media and positive/negative points.
Here is a link to Jake Wynne's film website, it shows what he has achieved and his experience: http://jakewynne.com/index.html

Ivory final – Good strong editing, with clear definitions between verse and chorus. Interesting compositions and a clear filmic aesthetic. The lip-sync was especially good with a clear emotional drive and areas of light and shade.

After reading Jake's feedback on our music video it was very positive and a proud moment. We got lots of positive feedback mainly on our editing and the performance. These were the two things that we believed were the most important factors to help make our video of high quality, so we were happy to hear that this paid off in the video.

Now below is the feedback for all of the other music videos at Great Baddow High School:

St.Dizier- Bang Bang -  Nice framings, and interesting locations with a refreshingly different grade. However, the edit could have done with some more dynamics though to differentiate the build of the track.

Final Heidi   -   A good energy to the edit and a great use of the photographic technique which resolves nicely at the end of the video. Heidi’s performance was consistently strong and her lip-sync was also good.  It  would have been  nice to see a bit more of this lip-sync through the video.

Lovenowfinaldraft -  A great set up and concept with the first person perspective. Some really good locations with amazing colours and vistas. Some more dynamics from the editing would have helped to drive this video along and give a better build to the day ending. It would have been  nice to see a bit more of the lip-sync through the video.

Hypnotic Final Video – Really good use of varying visual dynamics through different parts of the song. The edit picked out the changes in the music very well and the lip-syncing was especially strong. Good use of locations to give variety.

Rolling with Elephants – Great lip-sync, really tight with the editing and I really enjoyed the painted on digital effects.  They worked especially well as outlines on the main performers.

"I Don't Mind"- Tori Lorente – A good filmic aesthetic to the video, with a nice use of colour. Some great framings and solid lip-sync throughout. A little more variety in the edit would have helped it build a bit more towards the end.

FINAL VIDEO - Megan Thomas – A strong narrative thread that was well performed and consistent. The Lip-syncing was very good and the emotion was conveyed very well. A good balance between the narrative and the lip-sync performance, with the cross cutting of both working well.

Ava Final Draft – Good use of varied locations and a strong narrative thread running through. Great lip-sync and a good balance between narrative and performance elements, resulting in a satisfying resolution.

iuris - Something More – Innovative use of grading, and clever transition technique between shots. Strong lip-sync and some really interesting framing on the performance moments.

Avenue - Monday Morning (Final) – A really clear beginning middle and end. A well thought out video with endearing performances from the band with great lip-sync and fun energy. The comedy was well balanced and the video continued to develop as new scenes played out, helping to drive the story through.

Stay Draft 2 – Once again, a lovely filmic aesthetic here, with very well composed shots pulling as much out of the environments as possible. The performances were well lip-synced, but at times I felt the emotions were not as clearly signposted.

Ivory wins best new artist

Our artist Ivory won an award for best upcoming artist from NME magazine.  She accepted the award from the magazine and you can see this above in the video, below is Ivory's twitter page when she announced she had won the award.

Weather preparations for filming

When filming outside it was very important for us to match the location with the weather, for example at our dark pond location the rain worked well because it added an eerie effect that the scene suited. Also the greenhouse footage looked better when the weather was dry and sunny, these are the sort of things we had to plan for.
