Prelim Production Diary

Now that we have completed the preliminary task for which we recreated 30 seconds of the music video 'Fancy'. We now have to look back on it and see how it could have been improved and 10 questions about the production side of our video. Here is the final edited copy of our video that i will be evaluating.

1. Who did you work with and how did you manage tasks between you?
I was in a group with Jack Bezant and Tilly Hawkins and in order to equally manage the tasks between us all before each lesson we had a small talk between each other and decided between ourselves which tasks we should complete. This enabled us to make sure that one person did not have more work than another.

2. How did you plan your sequence? What process did you use?
To plan our sequence firstly we found the 30 seconds of the music video that we wanted to recreate and then after that we completed a story board, which can be found in the production diary and to make sure the sequence was accurate time wise he added how long each shot lasted for and the time that it appeared on the screen. Also when planning the filming the filming of our sequence we completed shooting schedules so that we knew exactly when we were suppose to be filming and what part of the video we were suppose to be filming and this allowed us to not waste time and be as efficient as possible.

3.What theories could be applied to the video you chose?
There are a couple of theorists that can be applied to the music video of 'Fancy'. The first theory that is shown and therefore can be applied to the video is Laura Mulvey's idea of he Male Gaze as the first shot is a panning shot up the body of Iggy Azalea within the 30 seconds we recreated, causing the woman to be sexualised and objectified as for much of that shot you don't see her face. However as she is deliberately looking down the camera the video fits with the theory of exhibition and therefore Raunch culture culture as to show power in the video she is using power as the source. Also with the editing of the 30 seconds that we created, Vernallis' theory with editing can be applied because by cross cutting between three different scenes it ma1. Also with the editing of the 30 seconds that we created, Vernallis' theory with editing can be applied because by cross cutting between three different scenes it makes the editing obvious. This further links with Goodwin's suggestion on Thought beats as is evident when Iggy flips her hair in the corridor as it makes the beat more obvious.

4. What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did use it?
For the filming of the video we used digital HD handheld cameras, for the still shots we put them on adjustable tripods, for panning shots we handheld the cameras and for tracking shots we used a chair with wheels in order to get a smooth movement along. When editing we used PC computers with the editing software Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on. This enabled us to cut, place and manipulate the footage that we had in order to make it as close as to looking like the real as possible. Particular effects that we used though were the Brightness and Contrast effect and the Auto Colour effect because it enabled us to brighten and adjust the saturation in the corridor scenes to make it closer to the high lighting which is in the original music video.

5. What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
When planning we had to take into consideration the settings/ locations which we would be using and whether it would be realistic for us to recreate or not and whether the we would be able to recreate the actions which the artists complete realistically and believably. When shooting we had to take into account the factor that people were going to be absent  on certain days that we might have needed to shoot in, so we had to shoot certain scenes on particular days, for example due to Tilly helping with Year 6 induction days she wasn't in class all the time so the day she was we ha to make the most of and film all of her sections in the music video. Also as we were using other people that weren't in our group we also had to film when they were free too and weren't in a different class themselves. When editing a factor we had to take into account was that as we were uploading different shots at different times, we had to leave the correct length gaps so that we could fit in the other shots that weren't uploaded yet and still keep the rest of the shots in sync with the rest of the original video. kes the editing obvious. This further links with Goodwin's suggestion on Thought beats as is evident when Iggy flips her hair in the corridor as it makes the beat more obvious.

Final Prelim

Below is the final edit of our prelim task, in which we recreated the music video 'Fancy' by Iggy Azalea. We worked really hard on creating this video and making it look as realistic as possible, in the short time we were given.

As seen from the video above we tried to ensure that the mise en scene, costume, lighting and location all matched the original video as much as possible. This helped our final prelim look a lot more effective.
